Azerbaijan, United Nations sign Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030
Azerbaijan and the United Nations have signed the Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030.
During an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations (UN), the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN signed the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2026–2030. The document was signed by Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva.
The document defines the strategic directions for partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN for the next five years, reflecting joint commitments towards promoting sustainable development and improving the well-being of people in Azerbaijan.
At the event, Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, emphasized the role of the strong partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She noted that the signing of the Cooperation Framework marks the beginning of a new and future-oriented collaboration for the sustainable development of people and the planet.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted the important role of the UN as one of the key pillars of multilateral diplomacy. He noted Azerbaijan’s special focus on achieving the UN's SDGs, enhancing the rights and opportunities of women and youth in this regard, as well as humanitarian initiatives and the promotion of intercultural dialogue.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov underscored the long-term and effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN. He pointed out that this partnership creates new opportunities for sustainable development and provides effective support mechanisms for improving the country's economic development model. He also noted that the Cooperation Framework is based on the achievements of previous cooperation periods and aligns with Azerbaijan's long-term socio-economic priorities, including human capital development, the promotion of innovations, ecosystems, climate resilience, a green transition, and inclusive growth.
The event was attended by heads of state institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organizations. The participants discussed the UN's global activities over the past 80 years and Azerbaijan's progress toward the 2030 Agenda within the context of its cooperation with the organization.
Additionally, a short film titled "A Living Legacy" was presented, reflecting the 80-year history of the UN’s promotion of peace, dignity, and prosperity for all.
