The 6th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) took place.

Speaking at the Roundtable of Governors, Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov stressed that one of the biggest challenges facing humanity in the world today is related to climate change focused by the world countries, which urges to take new and more appropriate approaches to achieve the goals set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. It was noted at the roundtable that AIIB's activities aimed at ensuring a "green" and sustainable future mean a lot. In 2020, AIIB's contribution to sustainable infrastructure in the world amounted to $ 1.2 billion, funding 13 climate-related projects. Mr. Jabbarov emphasized the importance of discussions on the Bank's continued support for member countries to build a "green" and strong economy.

Reporting on the measures taken in this direction, the Economy Minister noted that special attention will be paid to the "green" and sustainable development of the economy within the framework of Azerbaijan's National Priorities for the next 10 years, as well as the use of "green" and "smart" concepts in large-scale reconstruction work in our liberated territories. The Minister mentioned the role of the Bank in the development and economic growth of the member countries, expressing confidence that support measures will continue.

The meeting adopted the AIIB's annual report for 2020, concluded to hold the next annual meeting in October 2022 in Moscow, Russia, and discussed tasks for the coming period, etc.
