Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov met with UNDP (United Nations Development Program) Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti.

Mr. Jabbarov noted that Azerbaijan pursues effective cooperation with various UN agencies, signed a number of documents and implemented joint projects. Recalling the signing on March 1 of this year of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2021-2025 between the UN and the Azerbaijani government, the Minister of Economy said that the document will contribute to the socio-economic reforms carried out in the country, the achievement of development goals in accordance with the National Priorities and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting focused on the measures taken by the Azerbaijani government to eliminate the negative consequences of the pandemic for the economy, and highly appreciated the UNDP’s support in this respect. It was briefed at the meeting that UNDP conducted a survey to assess the impact of the coronavirus on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Azerbaijan in 2020-2021 and offered support in developing a competitive package for SMEs to address the consequences of the pandemic and war.

UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Alessandro Fracassetti noted the effective cooperation of his organization with our country in a number of areas stressing that UNDP plans to support the process of restoration work in the liberated territories.

The meeting discussed measures to eliminate the negative consequences of the pandemic, the work done to achieve the SDG and other issues.
