Prospects for the development of Azerbaijani-Turkmen economic cooperation have been discussed.

The Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov has paid a working visit to Turkmenistan. As part of the visit, President of Turkmenistan Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Azerbaijani delegation. During the meeting, views were exchanged on further strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect, diversifying business partnerships, promoting joint initiatives, as well as expanding regional economic and trade cooperation.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, received Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.

The meeting highlighted the dynamic development of Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations resulting from the political will of the heads of state. It was noted that last month’s state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan with a large delegation, along with the documents signed between the two countries in the presence of the heads of state, made a significant contribution to elevating cooperation to a new level.

The parties discussed priority areas of economic cooperation, large-scale projects implemented to diversify mutual interaction, and new partnership opportunities.

During the visit, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Guvanch Agajanov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

The meeting noted that the rich energy potential and natural resources of both countries create a solid foundation for the development of economic partnership. The prospects for energy transport to international markets, the improvement of the legal and contractual framework in this field, as well as the implementation of joint energy projects were discussed.

It was stated that the favorable geographical location of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan creates important advantages for the development of international transport corridors. Highlighting the urgency of transport and energy security issues on the global agenda, the contributions of both countries to ensuring regional and global energy and transport security were acknowledged.

Alongside economic cooperation, the importance of developing humanitarian ties was also brought to attention. In this regard, it was noted that the Days of Turkmen Culture held in Azerbaijan last year served to further strengthen friendly relations between the two peoples.

As part of the working visit to Turkmenistan, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov met with Nokerguly Atagulyev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Turkmen co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. During the meeting, ideas were exchanged on increasing the efficiency of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, expanding trade and investment ties, developing cooperation in industry, transport, infrastructure, and tourism, and advancing projects of mutual interest.

The 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held as part of the working visit.

Speaking at the meeting, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Azerbaijani co-chair of the Commission and Minister of Economy, emphasized that the strategic course set by the heads of state shapes the development of bilateral relations across all areas. He noted that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission serves as an important platform for the systematic expansion of cooperation in economic, trade, investment, industrial, energy, transport, logistics, and other fields. It was highlighted that Azerbaijan is ready to develop cooperation to promote mutual investments, intensify contacts between business circles, and implement joint projects. The Minister of Economy expressed his gratitude for the Mosque complex being built by Turkmenistan in the city of Fuzuli as a brotherly contribution, emphasizing that this project is a clear example of the friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Nokerguly Atagulyev, the Turkmen co-chair of the Commission and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, stressed in his speech that relations between the two countries are based on mutual trust and strategic partnership. He noted that the activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission are of great importance for expanding cooperation into new areas, accelerating the implementation of existing projects, and further deepening economic ties. Nokerguly Atagulyev expressed his gratitude for the "Dostluq" oil tanker gifted to Turkmenistan by Azerbaijan, noting that this initiative contributes to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries.

The meeting highlighted an initiative to establish a bilateral Business Council to expand economic cooperation and diversify export routes between the two nations.

At the conclusion of the meeting, a protocol was signed aimed at strengthening cooperation in economic, trade, energy, transport, agricultural, food security, environmental protection, water infrastructure, and other priority fields.

During the visit, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov also met with Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The meeting focused on prospects for expanding economic dialogue and business partnerships between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Views were exchanged on developing cooperation in the energy sector, implementing joint projects, and other areas of mutual interest.
